Marathon on hold while Flanagan crosses over
Marathon on hold while Flanagan crosses overIt was widely assumed that Shalane Flanagan's half-marathon debut in Houston would be a prelude to her running a spring marathon. But Flanagan has told Universal Sports that her marathon debut will likely come in the fall after she competes during cross-country and outdoors. Also, Haile Gebrselassie will headline the NYC Half-Marathon March 21.

While that might not sound like Earth-shattering news, it is quite surprising for her just days removed from winning the longest race of her career, the Houston Half-Marathon. "I was expecting to potentially need a week to recover because it was twice as far as I had ever raced and I thought the road would beat me up," Flanagan said in a phone interview after returning home to Oregon. "But I feel pretty good. I was actually saying to my coach (Jerry Schumacher) that he prepared me very well for my first half-marathon because I feel like I've worked harder in workouts and felt worse. I think we're excited to bounce back pretty quickly and move forward."
