Bolt's pulling out of Commonwealth Games

Usain Bolt is set to deal a hammer blow to this year'sCommonwealth Games by pulling out of the festival of sport.

The triple Olympic and world sprint champion in the 100 metres, 200m and 4x100m relay, as well as the triple world record holder, wants to focus instead on the 2011 World Athletics Championships and the 2012 London Olympics, where he intends to defend all his titles.

The Jamaican, unlike some prospective Commonwealth athletes, insists he has no security issues, despite fears of terrorist attacks in Delhi which will lead to an unprecedented level of policing at the so-called 'Friendly Games' in October.

But Bolt sees the timing of the Games as deeply unhelpful in terms of his long-term goals, as well as falling behind the newly-established Diamond League in his list of priorities for 2010.

The 14-meeting league starts in Qatar on May 14 and ends in Brussels on August 27, after which Bolt intends to rest before beginning his pre-season training programme designed to deliver another haul of medals at the 2011 World Championships in South Korea.

Bolt's participation at the Games has been the subject of much speculation over the past few weeks, with the chairman of the Delhi Organising Committee, Suresh Kalmadi, first insisting that the greatest sprinter in history will definitely come to India before modifying his initial claim by stating that he has asked for Bolt to be present.
